Prepare. Facilitate. Wrap It Up.

3 Part Video Series with Dr. Catlin Tucker

Connection and conversation is key to student success in a virtual environment—but teachers are finding themselves in cameras off, mics muted, low-engagement situations. Dr. Catlin Tucker has put together a 3-part video series to guide teachers through the process of preparing, facilitating, and wrapping up online conversations. Below you can find each 5-7 minute video with downloadable templates and links to support. Watch at your own pace or together with your PLC!

PREPARE

Before the discussion...

  1. Select questions ahead of time from StudySync to save time!
  2. Put together a presentation slidedeck with one question per slide.

Use a planning document to communicate with students in advance of the discussion.

FACILITATE

During the discussion...

  1. Start with an icebreaker.
  2. Review expectations for participation and behavior.
  3. Project one question at a time
  4. Use a range of facilitation strategies.

Wrap-It-Up

At the end of the discussion...

  1. Thank students for their participation.
  2. Provide an avenue to reflect on what they learned.
  3. Ask them to assess their participation.

In case you missed it, StudySync®TV has filmed several new “Zoom-like” episodes to help teachers model online academic conversations among students.
